Applying online
Do I need an account to apply?
Yes. A free account lets you save drafts, receive notifications, answer document requests and download your licence. Create an account.
Which documents should I prepare?
For most licences: your National Identity Card, Business Registration Card, proof of premises and a site plan. Each licence page lists the exact documents.
What file types can I upload?
PDF, JPG and PNG files up to 10 MB each. A clear photo from your phone is fine, as long as all four corners are visible.
I don't have internet access. Can I still apply?
Yes. Visit the Licensing Office in Malabar and an officer will help you submit your application online at the counter.
How do I know my application was received?
You receive a reference number on screen and by email straight away. Use it on the tracking page, or follow it in My account.
Fees & payment
When do I pay the trade fee?
Only after the Licensing Committee approves your application. You will be told the exact amount, based on the schedule of the RRA (Licenses) Regulation No. 3 of 2003.
Is there a fee to apply?
No. Submitting an application online is free of charge.
Are the fees on this website final?
The fees shown are indicative, to help you plan. The amount payable is confirmed when your application is assessed.
Renewals & changes
When should I renew my licence?
Trade licences are renewed every year. Renewals open in October; renew before 31 December to avoid a late surcharge.
I'm moving to new premises. What should I do?
Submit a “Change of premises” application before you move, with proof of the new premises. Clearances may be needed again.
Can I transfer my licence to someone else?
Transfers must be approved. Choose “Transfer of licence” as the application type and upload the new holder’s documents.
Legal Metrology
Do my scales need to be verified?
Yes. Any weighing or measuring instrument used in trade must be verified and stamped by the Legal Metrology Unit before use, and periodically after that.
How do I report a short measure?
Use the contact form and choose “Legal Metrology complaint”, or call the office. Keep your receipt and the product if you can.
